Safe Driving Tips this Halloween

It's almost that time of year. The time when little ghouls and goblins roam the streets in search of candy. But, it is also a crucial time for increased safety. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that Halloween is consistently one of the top three days for pedestrian injuries and fatalities. In order to keep your little trick-or-treaters safe, here are some tips.

  • Slow down by about 5 miles per hour under the speed limit. This gives you time to react if a child darts in front of your vehicle.
  • Turn your headlights on to make yourself more visible.
  • Look out for children crossing the street. The excitement may cause children to forget traffic rules.
  • Make sure your children are visible when trick-or-treating at night. They should carry flashlights inside of their candy buckets.
  • If you're dropping your kids off make sure you drop them off at the curb and not in the middle of the street.
